Game Engines are constantly evolving and changing to adapt to the current hardware and push them to the limits. These game engines have proven to show off the greatest graphically impressive games of the generation.
5) Unreal engine 3: Probably the most popular and most used game engine of the generation. It is featured in many games on all platforms. Its renderer supports many advanced techniques including HDRR, per-pixel lighting, and dynamic shadows, and builds upon the tools available in previous versions of the engine.

4) EGO Engine: This engine is featured as one of the best looking and most powerful multi-platform racing game engine ever created. It shows off some of the most impressive racing graphics, lighting, and motion blur across three platforms, running at a stable frame rate.

3) Killzone 2 Deferred Rendering engine: Deferred Rendering has proven to work very well with the Playstation 3 and Killzone 2. It allows the usage of a large amount of dynamic lights and reduces the complexity of required shader instructions allowing the system to have more resources for textures, AI and Effects. The results are the best looking first person shooter on the Playstation 3.

2) Naughty Dog Game Engine 2.0: Not much is known about this game engine, except that it will be used in Uncharted 2 which is currently one of the best looking games ever, and easily is the best looking on any console to this date.

1) CryEngine 2: To this day the CryEngine shows off the most impressive visuals in any game, in both Crysis and Crysis: Warhead. Showing off impressive detail such as Light Beams & Shafts, Eye Adaptation & High Dynamic Range (HDR) Lighting, Motion Blur & Depth of Field, and Dynamic Soft Shadows. CryEngine 3 will be making its way to consoles bringing most of this technology with it.
